Notifications on your phone

Add Nazzam to your Home Screen and turn on notifications, so you hear about your work when Nazzam is not open.

Nazzam tells you about your work in the bell at the top of every page. That only helps while Nazzam is open. Push notifications are the same messages, delivered to the device you are actually holding.

Add Nazzam to your phone#

Open app.nazzam.org in your phone's browser.

On Android, Nazzam offers to install itself. Tap Install and it appears on your Home Screen like any other app.

On iPhone or iPad, only you can do it:

  1. Tap Share
  2. Choose Add to Home Screen
  3. Tap Add

This step is not decoration on an iPhone — Apple only allows notifications for a web app that has been added to the Home Screen. In an ordinary Safari tab there is nothing to turn on.

If you say Not now, Nazzam will not ask again for a month. Once it is installed, it never asks again.

Turn notifications on#

Open Nazzam, then Settings → Notifications, and press Turn on push notifications. Nazzam explains what it would tell you about; your browser asks for permission only after you press Enable.

You will be told about:

  • a task assigned to you
  • somebody mentioning you
  • comments on work you follow
  • due and overdue reminders

One device at a time#

Each browser and each device subscribes separately, and they are listed in Settings so you can see which. Turning notifications off on your laptop leaves your phone alone.

Turning push off does not turn off the bell. Everything still arrives in Nazzam — you simply stop being interrupted about it.

If your browser says notifications are blocked, Nazzam cannot ask again: that is a setting in the browser itself, behind the padlock in the address bar.
